Towards the eigenvalue rigidity of Zariski-dense subgroups

I will discuss some results and conjectures suggesting that the eigenvalues
of elements of a finitely generated Zariski-dense subgroup of a simple algebraic group over a field of characteristic zero should determine the corresponding form of the ambient group over the trace field up to finitely many possibilities (and sometimes even uniquely).
