The spectrum of random kernel matrices

I will talk about recent joint work with Van Vu on the limiting spectral distributions of new models of random matrices, introduced and studied by El Karoui and Cheng–Singer. Our main results strengthen previous work of these authors and confirm a question of Cheng–Singer about the universality of the limiting distributions of their models.
