Orbital Counting for Thin Groups and the Affine Linear Sieve

Seminar:
Group Actions and Dynamics
Event time:
Monday, April 13, 2009 - 12:30pm to 1:30pm
Location:
431 DL
Speaker:
Alexander Kontorovich
Speaker affiliation:
Brown University
Event description:

We will discuss recent progress on the Affine Linear Sieve, which
finds integers with a bounded number of prime factors inside a set generated by a non-linear group action. The methods involve Patterson-Sullivan theory, expander graphs, and spectral methods for infinite-volume hyperbolic surfaces and solids.
