Event description:

Non-Standard Analysis allows us to rigorously construct a field extension of the reals containing infinitesimals and infinite numbers. Remarkably, that field is elementary equivalent to the real numbers!
In this field we can do calculus just as Newton and Leibnitz intended, with numbers smaller than any positive real yet larger than zero, and all of our results are transferable back to the regular real numbers.
I will present the construction and show how certain theorems can be obtained much more easily and intuitively.
