Mock Modular Forms, the Largest Mathieu Group, K3 Surfaces, and Rademacher Sums

Seminar:
Number Theory
Event time:
Thursday, November 3, 2011 - 12:30pm to Wednesday, November 2, 2011 - 8:00pm
Location:
214 LOM
Speaker:
Miranda Cheng
Speaker affiliation:
Harvard University
Event description:

In the first part of the talk I will give an overview of a recent result relating a set of mock modular forms and the largest Mathieu group M24. I will also briefly discuss the context (string theory on K3 surfaces) in which this relation has been studied.
If time permits, in the second part of my talk I will discuss the relevant mock modular forms as Rademacher sums, and how it compares to the genus zero property of the Monstrous Moonshine.
