Event description:
In this talk we will outline some of the ways in which measure theoretic concepts (like mixing and equidistribution) can be used to solve geometric problems (like orbit counting in $\mathbb{H}^2$). The main aim will be to give a sketch of the ideas in Eskin-McMullen’s 1995 paper on Mixing, counting, and equidistribution in Lie groups.
