In 2003 Speyer and Sturmfels introduced the tropical Grassmannian, a polyhedral complex parameterizing tropicalized linear spaces. This can be enlarged to the Dressian, which includes all non-realizable tropical linear spaces. In this talk I'll describe joint work with J.H. Giansiracusa in which we explore these spaces, and other related constructions, from a scheme-theoretic and modular perspective.
