Beilinson-Bernstein localization allows us to translate many
problems in representation theory into the geometric language of D-modules on flag varieties. One must ask then to what do the interesting basic representations (such as irreducible representations, but also Verma modules for complex groups and principal series for real groups) localize? In this talk, I will explain a result on Beilinson-Bernstein localization of representations for real reductive Lie groups to partial flag varieties. It is an extension of the duality theorem obtained by Hecht, Milicic, Schmid and Wolf for the full flag variety. Along theway, I will introduce D-modules, equivariant derived categories, and a geometric version of the (derived) Zuckerman functor.
