Event description:

A question for your real analysis students: can you find a function whose local Hoelder
exponent at any point equals the *value* of the function?
It turns out that such functions arise quite naturally from dynamical systems, and we will see
two examples which come from expanding circle maps and from real quadratic polynomials.
The proof is elementary.
