Event description:

Heegaard Floer homology can be used to define an invariant for links in the three-sphere, whose graded Euler characteristic is the multi-variable Alexander polynomial. I will describe this invariant and some of its properties. This invariant captures the Thurston norm of the link complement. These results are joint work with Zoltan Szabo.
