In joint work with E. Lindenstrauss we obtained a complete classifications of joinings of higher rank Cartan actions on locally homogeneous spaces. Unlike the case of torus actions, here there is no ‘up to zero entropy part’ in the lassification – every ergodic joining is algebraic. Previous results in that direction required additional assumptions. We will discuss the proof and a reformulation as an equidistribution -
result.
