Event description:

Quadrature by expansion (QBX) is a method for evaluation of boundary integral equations that
is high order, kernel independent, and amenable to acceleration. In this talk, we examine
the truncation error behavior of QBX on interior versus exterior regions. We limit our discussion
to the 2D double layer potential. For interior regions, we find the truncation error is
zero for densities that give rise to harmonic polynomial functions. Based on this insight,
we propose a modification to QBX that reduces truncation error in exterior regions.
