We explain how the study of eigenfunctions on quasi-Fuchsian
manifolds can be used to prove global finiteness results for the pressure
metric on quasi-Fuchsian space. As a consequence we obtain that the
Fuchsian locus is highly distorted inside quasi-Fuchsian space. The talk
is based on joint work with E. Fioravanti, U. Hamenstädt and Y. Zhang.
