Event description:

It is well known that every set of r linear equations in n unknowns, where nr, has a nontrivial solution. If we want this nontrivial solution to depend continuously on the coefficients of the equations, this is not necessarily solvable for all nr. I’ll show several approaches to finding which pairs n,r allow such a solution, and if I have time (which I probably won’t) a few consequences of this.
