Event description:
Let (R,m,k) be a commutative local noetherian ring with maximal ideal m and residue field k=R=m. For a pair of finitely generated R-modules M and N, the complexity of (M,N), denoted by cx_R(M,N), measures the polynomial growth rate of the number of generators of the modules Ext^n_R (M,N). It was first introduced by Avramov and Buchweitz (2000) to study properties of Ext^n_R(M,N) whent he ring R is complete intersection.
My talk is based on a joint project with Hailong Dao in which we study cx_R(M,N) over rings other than complete intersections.
