Brill-Noether theory of tropical curves

Seminar:
Algebraic and Tropical Geometry
Event time:
Thursday, October 4, 2012 - 12:30pm to 1:30pm
Location:

Speaker:

Event description:

The Brill-Noether rank of a tropical curve is an invariant analogous to the dimension of the Brill-Noether locus of an algebraic curve. We will discuss the divisor theory of tropical curves and construct their moduli space. We will then show that the function taking a tropical curve to its Brill-Noether rank is upper semicontinuous on this space.
