New Incoming Faculty

August 8, 2022

The department is very happy to welcome Sebastian Hurtado - Salazar as a new Professor of Mathematics.  Professor Hurtado - Salazar comes to us from the University of Chicago where he has been an Assistant Professor since 2018.  His areas of interest are Geometry and Dynamics, particularly group actions and rigidity phenomena. He is the recipient (with Aaron Brown) of the New Horizons in Mathematics Prize in 2022, for their solution, jointly also with David Fisher, of Zimmer’s Conjecture on smooth actions of higher-rank lattices.
