Colloquium Representations of p-adic groups 4:15pm -

Abstract:

The Langlands program is a far-reaching collection of conjectures that relate different areas of mathematics including number theory and representation theory. A fundamental problem on the representation theory side of the Langlands program is the construction of all (irreducible, smooth, complex) representations of p-adic groups. In my talk I will introduce p-adic groups and provide an overview of our understanding of their representations, with a focus on recent developments. I will also briefly discuss applications to other areas.

Friday Mornings Geometry/Probability/Combinatorics and their connections 9:00am -

This is a low-key seminar where we talk about matters of interest to the audience,

which recently has been mostly about Geometry/Probability/Combinatorics and their connections.

You’re welcome to show up and join the discussion

Geometric Analysis and Application Geometric measure theory on non smooth spaces with lower Ricci curvature bounds 2:00pm -

Abstract:

The fact that locally area minimizing hypersurfaces sitting inside smooth Riemannian manifolds have vanishing mean curvature is a cornerstone of Geometric Measure Theory and of its several applications in Geometric Analysis. In this talk I will discuss how this principle can be extended and exploited on non smooth spaces with lower Ricci Curvature bounds, where the first variation formula is not available and the classical regularity theory does not even make sense.
