Dimensions (the Yale student chapter of the Association of Women in Mathematics) is hosting mathematician Corrine Yap from Rutgers performing her play Uniform Convergence. Cheese and crackers will be served beforehand. A description us as follows:Through the eyes of a 19thcentury Russian mathematician and a present-day Asian-American math professor, this solo piece explores the struggles of two women trying to find their place in an inhospitable academic world. Using text, mathematics, movement, and music, the play is an attempt to understand identity and how we communicate who we are.Corrine Yap is a playwright, performer, and mathematician passionate about issues of gender and race in society. She has studied at the Moscow Art Theatre School, the Budapest Semesters in Mathematics program, and received her B.A. in math and theater from Sarah Lawrence College, where Uniform Convergence was first produced. She recently performed her show at the Pan-Asian Repertory Theater in NYC. Corrine is currently a mathematics Ph.D student at Rutgers University, studying combinatorics.Free and open to the public.
