Abstract: A common theme in mathematics is to classify all distinct objects in a given setting. In this talk, we will discuss this problem in the case of topological surfaces and then turn our attention toward distinguishing virtual multistrings, i.e., a collection of loops on a surface considered up to virtual homotopy.
