Fractals are never-ending complex patterns which are frequently self-similar across different scales. Several times they can be obtained via iterative processes as attractors of various dynamic systems. They have been used to model numerous diverse phenomena; from river networks and coastlines to blood vessels, and from crystals to ocean waves. Since fractals are inherently non-smooth their geometry cannot be described adequately by tools of classical geometry. In this talk we are going to discuss metric and geometric properties of fractals, and introduce some relevant tools of the trade such as the notion of fractal dimension.
