Event description:
The theory of primitive ideals of enveloping algebras of semisimple Lie algebras
(developed by Dixmier, Duflo, Borho, Joseph and others)
has been a milestone inĀ  semisimple representation theory. Recently, Aleksei Petukhov
and I (based on earlier work by Zhilinskii) have been able to develop a complete theory also for

the three finitary Lie algebras sl(infty), o(infty), sp(infty).

The final result is quite different from the finite-dimensional case, and is actually much simpler.
In the talk I will explain the result at a conceptional level, omitting technicalities.
