Event description:
Maynard recently used a refinement of the Selberg sieve to show that for any k there are infinitely many clusters of k primes contained in intervals of bounded size, generalizing and strengthening a celebrated result of Zhang. I will discuss his methods and explain how they can be applied to show the existence of dense clusters of primes within certain well-behaved sets of integers. This talk is based in part on work with Lynn Chua and Soohyun Park.
