Characters of finite dimensional representations

Almost 100 years after Hermann Weyl proved his famouscharacter formula for representations of compact groups, there arestill many interesting questions in the subject. I'll discuss anapplication to computing signatures of Hermitian forms, and anidentity for these characters at certain special elements.
