The Gibbs Assistant Professorships are intended primarily for men and women who received the Ph.D. degree and show definite promise in research in pure or applied mathematics.  Appointments are for three years.  The salary will be at least $80,000.  Each recipient of a Gibbs Assistant Professorship will be given a moving allowance based on the distance to be moved.

 

The teaching load for Gibbs Assistant Professors will be kept light, so as to allow ample time for research.  This will consist of three one-semester courses per year.  Part of the duties may consist of a one-semester course at the graduate level in the general area of the instructor’s research. Position in Mathematics Instruction

 The Department of Mathematics at Yale seeks one or more individuals with demonstrated expertise in college mathematics teaching to be appointed at the non-ladder rank of Lecturer. Salary commensurate with experience.

 The successful candidate will have a 2-2 teaching load, primarily focused on introductory courses through multivariable calculus. The position will typically include working with faculty and graduate student instructors on the improvement on their teaching, directing multi-section courses, working on curriculum development, and performing administrative tasks related to teaching. 

 The initial appointment is for three years. It may be renewed conditional upon a favorable review in the penultimate year and the teaching needs of the Department.

 Qualifications: Ph.D. in mathematics; interest and skill in teaching introductory mathematics courses. We welcome experience with mentoring graduate student instructors and with curriculum development.
